Extended until March 2022 The use of security guards for anti-piracy services on ships flying the Italian flag. The Italian Government has extended until March 31, 2022 the possibility for security guards to be employed for anti-piracy services, even without having supported the courses required by law. Candidates, however, must have participated, at least for six months, in international missions for the armed forces with operational assignments. Despite the extension, the knot concerning the training of gpg for anti-piracy tasks still remains to be solved. The Ministry of Interior has not yet activated the theoretical-practical courses for the qualification of security guards to serve on merchant ships.
